How Your Data Works

Last updated: July 2026 (updated to reflect Portfolio Health holdings access)
PivChart does not independently license or distribute market data from NSE or BSE. Market data displayed through PivChart is accessed through your own connected broker account, using your own broker login, subject to that broker's terms and your existing market-data entitlement provided by your broker. When you connect your own broker account, PivChart requests two things directly from your broker on your behalf: OHLC (Open-High-Low-Close) price information for technical analysis, and your holdings — symbol, quantity, and average buy price only — to show your consolidated Portfolio Health across the brokers you've connected. Holdings are fetched live from your broker every time you open Portfolio Health and are never stored in PivChart's database, not even temporarily — each visit triggers a fresh request, and nothing about your portfolio persists on our servers between sessions.

1. What happens when you connect a broker

1
You click "Connect Broker" and choose your broker (e.g. Upstox).
2
You are redirected to your broker's own login page — not ours. You log in there with your own credentials, exactly as you would in your broker's app.
3
Your broker asks you to confirm you want to grant PivChart access to your account data.
4
Your broker redirects you back to PivChart with a secure, time-limited authorization — PivChart never sees or stores your broker password.
5
When you scan a stock, PivChart uses your authorization to request OHLC price information from your broker on your behalf, in real time.
6
If you use Portfolio Health, PivChart also requests your holdings — symbol, quantity, and average buy price only — from each broker you've connected, to show a consolidated view across all of them. This is separate from, and in addition to, the OHLC price access above. This request happens live, fresh, every single time you open Portfolio Health — the result is never written to PivChart's database, so there is no stored copy of your holdings sitting on our servers between visits.
7
Our technical analysis engine (pattern detection, EMA squeeze, structure analysis, etc.) processes the data your broker returned, and shows you the result.

2. What PivChart does not do

🚫 We never place trades. PivChart has no order-placement functionality. We only read price data and your holdings (symbol, quantity, average buy price) — we cannot buy, sell, or modify anything in your broker account.

🚫 We never access your funds, margin, positions, or account balance. Holdings access is limited to what's needed to show your consolidated portfolio — nothing broader.

🚫 We never share your fetched data with other users. Data retrieved from your broker is not redistributed or made available to other users. Holdings data specifically is never stored anywhere, even temporarily — it is fetched live, used to render your Portfolio Health view, and discarded immediately after your request completes.

🚫 We never store your broker password. Authentication happens entirely on your broker's own login page. PivChart only ever holds a time-limited access token — the same mechanism your broker uses for any other third-party app you connect.

3. Why this matters

Market data from NSE and BSE is licensed to brokers, who in turn provide it to their own registered clients as part of their trading services. PivChart relies on the market-data access already provided to the user through the user's own broker account. PivChart's role is limited to running technical pattern-recognition on data that is already yours to view.

This is the same principle behind any budgeting app, portfolio tracker, or analytics tool that connects to your bank or broker account with your permission — the account and the data remain yours; the third-party tool simply helps you make sense of it.

4. Revoking access

You can disconnect your broker at any time from your PivChart account settings, or directly from your broker's own "connected apps" / "third-party access" page. Disconnecting immediately invalidates PivChart's access token.

5. Technical Analysis Only

PivChart generates automatically produced observations using predefined computational models. Outputs such as trend structure, chart patterns, EMA events, swing points, and liquidity events are generated mechanically from market data. They are analytical observations only and should not be interpreted as investment advice, research recommendations, or instructions to buy, sell, or hold securities.

6. User Responsibility

Investment decisions remain solely the responsibility of the user. PivChart does not evaluate whether any security is suitable for any particular investor and does not provide personalized investment advice. Consult a SEBI-registered advisor before making any trading or investment decision.
